At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And [through Our messengers] We revealed unto him this decree: "The last remnant of those [sinners] shall be wiped out in the morn." 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 Fear Allah and do not disgrace me' 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And the (cities were) right on the high-road. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
