So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said: 'Here are my daughters; take them (in marriage), if you would be doing' 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
