The Companions of the Rocky Tract also rejected the messengers: 80 for We did vouchsafe them Our messages, but they obstinately turned their backs upon them 81 And they were hewing out houses from mountains feeling secure. 82 But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour, 83 and that which they had earned did not help them. 84 We have created the heavens and the earth and all that is between the two in accordance with the requirements of truth and wisdom. The Hour is surely coming. So overlook [their faults] with gracious forgiveness. 85 Surely your Lord is the Creator and knows everything. 86 We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an. 87 Cast not thine eyes toward that which We have let classes of them to enjoy; and grieve not over them, and lower thy wing unto the believers. 88 And say: "I am a distinct warner," 89 [For, thou art the bearer of a divine writ] such as We have bestowed from on high upon those who [afterwards] broke it up into parts, 90 Those who broke the Word of Allah into several parts, who broke the Torah or Bible, or changed its text, or those who called the Qur'an a fabrication and poetry. 91 By your Lord, We will question them all 92 About their deeds. 93 (O Prophet), proclaim what you are commanded, and pay no heed to those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity. 94 We suffice you against those who mock, 95 Who set up along with Allah another ilah (god), they will come to know. 96 And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say. 97 But hymn the praise of thy Lord, and be of those who make prostration (unto Him). 98 And serve your Lord until there comes to you that which is certain. 99
