The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
