And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
