And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
