And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 no caring friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
