Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
