The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
