Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 With it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth- 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And if We had revealed it (this Quran) unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 Think! If We let them enjoy life for some years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power, 211 verily, [even] from hearing it are they utterly debarred! 212 So call not thou unto another god along with Allah, lest thou be of the doomed. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers. 215 And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do. 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Surely, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? 221 They descend upon all sinful self-deceivers 222 The devils convey upon them what they heard, but most of them are liars. 223 And the Poets,- It is those straying in Evil, who follow them: 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
