In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 This is the revelations from the Beneficent, Merciful God. 2 A Book whose verses have been distinguished and explained, a lucid discourse for people who understand, 3 to be a herald of glad tidings as well as a warning. And yet, [whenever this divine writ is offered to men,] most of them turn away, so that they cannot hear [its message]; 4 And they say, "Our hearts are encased against that to which you call us, and there is a heaviness in our ears, and there is a barrier between us, so do as you will and so shall we." 5 (Muhammad), say, "I am a mere mortal like you. I have received a revelation that your Lord is the only One. So be up-right and obedient to Him and seek forgiveness from Him. Woe to the pagans, 6 Those who practise not regular Charity, and who even deny the Hereafter. 7 Surely those who believe, and do righteous deeds shall have a wage unfailing.' 8
