When Abraham said to his father and his people, "I boldly renounce what you worship 26 Other than Him who created me. He will show me the right way." 27 This is the legacy he left to his descendants so that they may turn (to God). 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 but when the truth came to them, they said, "This is sorcery, and we reject it." 30 They also said: "Why was this Qur'an not sent down to some great man of the two cities?" 31 Shall they apportion their Lord's mercy? It is We Who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them over others in degrees, so that one of them may take another as a serf; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than that which they amass. 32 And were it not that (all) men might become of one (evil) way of life, We would provide, for everyone that blasphemes against (Allah) Most Gracious, silver roofs for their houses and (silver) stair-ways on which to go up, 33 And doors of silver for their houses and couches of silver upon which they would recline. 34 and ornaments of gold. But all of these are but the provision of this present life; it is the life to come that the Lord reserves for those who fear Him. 35
