The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And the swollen sea, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
