The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
