The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And the Book written 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 And the swollen sea 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 none can avert that. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 such as play at plunging, 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
