The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
