The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
