The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
