The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
