The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
