The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
