The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
