The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
