The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
