A company of the former peoples 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
