The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 But not so the worshippers 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
