The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
