In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
