The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
