Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
