The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
