He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
