He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
