He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
