The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds. 29
