The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
