The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
