The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And [enter to] burn in a Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
