Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
