Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
