Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
