Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
