Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
