The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
