The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
