The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
