The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
