The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
