The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
