Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
